Some thoughts and suggestions!

First I used the mulch of wood chips and terms interchangeably in this article, Just FYI. There is not much difference, except that the mulch was once dead, and is more refined, and wood chips.

Second I suggest that the raw wood chips to keep away from home or other structures to contain the wood. Chips can accommodate and attract termites. If you are a bunch of raw wood chips that you can compost them for a few weeks to kill termites.

Third I prefer to use wood chips, as they had tree-removal/trimming of almost any company can be. I have a friend who all of our chips (much as we want) available free of charge. It's hard to throw them anywhere and is glad to be rid of.
